DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — A 45-year-old man died Saturday, two days after his all-terrain vehicle crashed on a private dirt trail off Rogers Road in the Woodlawn area. Gary Alan Hutcheson of Fort Walton Beach tried to jump a dirt mound on the trail at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. But the face of the ramp was too steep and the front of Hutcheson’s Yamaha 350 Bruin dug in. It flipped, threw Hutcheson to the ground and then rolled over once and landed on him, an FHP news release stated. Hutcheson was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola after the wreck.
The Walton County Sheriff ’s Office initially handled the accident, but the FHP took over the case when Hutcheson died.
